The Bezalel-Shalva Project

Students from Bezalel's various departments call at the Shalva hostel for children and youngsters with special needs on a weekly basis. Each pair of students works with a group of 6 children or youngsters for 4 hours each week. The children experience ceramic design, art, animation and photography. The joint creative process is dynamic, flexible and personal. The activity takes place in small work groups enabling personal attention, and support is provided by National Service personnel. The project is documented throughout the year by one of the students, using still and video photography.
The project is monitored and supported by a coordinator on behalf of the Shalva hostel, who maintains close working relations with the Academy. The students report their weekly activity to the Head of Social Projects at Bezalel and receive on-going training throughout the year, by the Dean of Students office, by external professionals from the Shalva Society and by lecturers and department heads.
