Comparisons among the arts are rich and challenging because of their essential differences. Modern thinking and technology have opened an era for possible analogies and collaborations, and have brought into being new art forms such as abstract animation, visual music, music theatre and performance-art, which combine the auditory with the visual. Researching these differences can inspire the creative person. Theoretical and practical aspects of the interrelationships among the fields of music, dance and the visual arts are the subject of this five-day conference. The conference will address the following: philosophical questions regarding the interconnections among the arts; the different types of links between music and visual works; case studies of links in different media in contemporary art (painting, sculpture, architecture, animation, installation, sound art, performance art, dance and total theatre); multi-media; the artist as a researcher and the human body as an instrument. Artists will be invited to talk about their own works, and wherever possible, these works will be performed and exhibited.More then twenty speakers from all over the world as well as from Israel will present their concepts. Guests from abroad include: Eric Salzman, Bret Battey, Jonathan Berger, Hayden Chisholm, Nicholas Cook, Aleksandra Dulic, Rajmil Fischman, Raviv Ganchrow, Lydia Goehr, Simon Shaw-Miller and Georges Schwizgebel. In addition to lectures, there will be live performances and an exhibition devoted to the subject of the conference. We expect a broad and diverse audience of artists, musicians, performers, scholars, teachers and students. Creators, performers and all those interested in the arts are invited to attend. The panels will be held in English, and will take place at the Hebrew University Givat-Ram campus, the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design and the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance.
