The course will deal with practical and theoretical aspects of drawing.The practical aspect includes 1) use of different mediums and techniques such as pencil, charcoal, brush and ink; 2) The basic signs of drawing: point, line, area, in a variety of mediums and techniques; 3) The basic of translating a three-dimensional object into a two-dimensional image, in the spirit of traditional European drawing, from elementary delineation of the image to rendering of light and shade.The theoretical aspects will relate – with visual examples from the history of art ¬-- to the definition of drawing, to the relations between sign and format, to composition, to the relations between drawing and adjoining means of expression, i.e. painting, photography, fine art printing, and sculpture, and to concepts such as image and picture.
