Stern Adi, Prof.

Prof. Adi Stern (b. 1966) is a graphic designer, type designer and a design educator and has served as the Head of the Department of Visual Communication at the Bezalel Academy since 2008. Adi completed his bachelors degree in the Department of Graphic Design at Bezalel with distinction, and received his Masters in Typeface Design from the Department of Typography at the University of Reading, UK, also with distinction. After graduating from Bezalel he worked for two years in David Tartakover's studio. Since 1994 he has run his own leading visual communication studio, specializing in design for cultural institutions, as well as in book design and typography.
Adi was a selected artist of the Israel Cultural Excellence Foundation and the recipient of the Israeli Ministry of Education and Culture Design Prize.
Since 1997 he has worked as a lecturer at Bezalel, teaching various graphic design and typography courses.
Adi writes, consults and lectures on the design and history of the Hebrew letter.

He has worked with many clients including the Design Museum Holon, the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, the Batsheva Dance Company, The Interdisciplinary Center, Herzliya, the Israel Festival, the Israeli Chamber Orchestra, the Israeli Opera, Yad Vashem (world center for Holocaust research, documentation and commemoration), Microsoft Typography (USA), Linotype (Germany) and Monotype (UK).

Many of his works have been exhibited internationally and have won awards worldwide, including the Tokyo TDC Award and the New York ADC Silver and Bronze awards.
