Pre-Academic Program

Foundations in Art, Design and Architecture
During this intense course, we will expose students to a wide range of disciplines that encompass the world of art and design. With practical workshops conducted by leading Bezalel graduates, students will gain tools for creative expression while improving their skills and expanding their understanding of art and design. Students will participate in workshops that sample the various departments within Bezalel including art, architecture, industrial design, visual communication, and ceramic and glass design. The course is designed for students who intend to pursue a degree at Bezalel and for others who wish to experience and explore a wide variety of subjects within a concentrated period.  In addition to the workshops, students will meet with the instructors for consultation sessions.

Practical Workshops

Painting, Now

Avi Sabah
During the course, we will become acquainted with traditional ideas and techniques alongside those that stray from the familiar boundaries of the conventional painting class. In our practical sessions, we will work with a live model and landscape. We will also conduct studio and gallery visits. The course is intended for those who refrain from viewing painting as a singly narrated story defined by a distinct set of work techniques. Utilizing different stimuli, we will try to achieve individual expression through the magical tool of painting.

Foundations of Drawing II
Marek Yanai

Drawing is an ancient tool and language that facilitates all the visual arts. As such, it is the foundation in the education of every artist and designer. The purpose of this course is to allow students to strengthen their visual acuity and their understanding of the means and aims of drawing. The course is divided into structured units that together make up the foundations of drawing: proportion, perspective, line, stain, light and shadow, volume, space and composition. 
Students who did not participate in the first course must submit a representative work

Unraveling the Secrets of Great Paintings
Sasha Okun 

By copying the Great Paintings, the painter can find solutions to the problems that he contends with as he faces the canvas.  During this course, we will copy the Great Paintings while emphasizing development of personal style. We will also become acquainted with the foundations of spatial arrangement, techniques and methods in drawing and arrangement, and the conveyance of ideas.

Painting Inspired by the Biblical Story
Shai Azoulay

In this workshop, we will translate Biblical stories into paintings. We will contend with questions that arise out of textually inspired painting while drawing inspiration from the myriad of images and characters that inhabit the Jewish bookshelf.

Foundations of Illustration
Noam Nadav

The course is intended to acquaint students with the tools and techniques of illustration. We will study the thought and work process necessary for the translation of text into an illustration while solving conceptual problems that arise as a result of the transformation.  We will also design characters and environments and contend with the transfer of abstract texts into an illustrated work that combines words with visual images.
Participants must submit a representative work prior to registration.

Professional Courses

Green Construction: From Theory to Practice
In partnership with: Ben Gurion University, the Technion, the Israel Green Building Council, and the Standards Institution of Israel

The course consists of lectures delivered by experts from field and academia.  A special effort is made to provide a comprehensive view on sustainable construction and its strive to adhere to the highest standards of water and energy conservation. Students will study the options available for improving existing buildings and acquire tools to design new construction that is consistent with specific climates, inhabitant health, environment, and economic feasibility. Throughout the course we will provide theoretical knowledge, field cases, practical exercises that include an outcome test, and field trips. Students will submit a project that will combine theoretical knowledge with the expertise that arises out of field work.  
Students who successfully complete the course will receive the certificate of Green Construction Attendant according to Standard 5281 issued by the Standards Institution of Israel
17 sessions, Wednesday 4 pm – 9 pm March 2nd – June 29th tuition 5300 NIS not including VAT.

The course includes field trips that will take place on Friday. Course location: Mofet Institute, Tel Aviv (adjacent to Levinsky College)
