Interpretations of Sports: Critical discourse and Israeli culture

romann dan, Semester 2, Wednesday, 14:00-17:00
Ronel Yoav, Dr., Semester 2, Wednesday, 14:00-17:00
The course will offer a critical reflection on sports, through sociological, political and philosophical perspectives. Competitive sport is one of the most important components in the world’s culture, and yet the place it occupies in the academic discourse (and especially in the areas of art and design) is relatively minor. The course will try to think about the many ways we - as fans -talk and think about sports. The course will be presented in a collaboration between a former soccer player and now a soccer coach, and a literature and cultural studies scholar, and will try to overcome this lacuna, and open up new ways to think of the intersection between sports, theoretical thought and art’sdiscourse. This is a theoretical course that will also try to see how a critical perspective can contribute and integrated into the fields of art and design.
