As automated, algorithmic, systems pervade our daily life, we increasingly experience their reach. Algorithms determine the news we see, the music we stream, the ads we’re exposed to and the very means through which we communicate and access information on a daily basis. Whereas algorithms have a long history and the word can be traced back to the 9th century, new concerns have arisen about this fusion of the social and the technical.
