MASA at Bezalel

Bezalel Academy of Art and Design
Bezalel Art Experience

Program Overview

The Bezalel Art Experience is designed for young international artists yearning to pursue their passion abroad.  The program offers students an opportunity to discover the world of art and design in a setting that emphasizes both academic and cultural growth in Israel’s holy city of Jerusalem.
Bezalel offers 2 academic tracks for MASA students:

Track I- The Bezalel Art Experience program

As a student in the Bezalel Art Experience program, you will enjoy a personal program under the auspices of the Fine Art Department. Students participate in a private tutorial, a course on the history of Jerusalem and a mandatory drawing or sculpture course (in English), along with your choice of a minimum of three courses in the following disciplines: sculpture, drawing, painting, printing, performance and Illustration.

Track II- Advanced Arts and Design Studies:  for applicants with at least two years of university-level art and design experience

Those students who are currently studying art or design in their third or fourth year at an accredited college or university are welcome to apply to the Advanced Arts and Design studies program.
In this program, students are asked to choose a department to which they will belong while they are studying at Bezalel. We request that these students send us a portfolio of their work to be passed on to the appropriate department where it will be evaluated by the head of the department. If accepted the head of the department will act as the advisor for those MASA students associated with her/his department, aiding in the creation of a schedule that will enable the student to make the most of their time at Bezalel.

Both tracks of the program also provide a dynamic supplementary curriculum, including field trips, tours, mifgashim – encounters – with Israeli peers, celebrations of Jewish and Israeli national holidays, social and cultural events throughout Israel, and educational seminars on topics ranging from Jewish and Israeli identity to religion and the Jewish state, the Arab-Israeli conflict, and trends in the Israeli job market.
