David Adika is a photographer, artist, and Head of the Photography Department at Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design Jerusalem. A senior lecturer in the Department of Photography since 1999, he holds bachelor’s (BFA) and master’s (MFA) degrees from Bezalel.
David Adika’s work focuses on the visual and cultural facets of the local Middle Eastern space as a microcosm that reflects his social and family identity. His photographic corpus contains representations of various still life and portraits, blurring the boundaries between abstract conceptual language and lavish visual accuracy. Adika’s visual research explores intimate yet universal biographies, while the photographs unfold familiar and unfamiliar aspects of everyday life and highlight questions of taste and social status.
Adika has had many solo exhibitions in Israeli and international venues, among them Tel Aviv Museum of Art, the Art Museum in Riga, Latvia, Bologna MUSEI, Casa Morandi, Italy, Herzliya Museum of Contemporary Art, and Braverman Gallery in Tel Aviv. He has won many awards, including the Minister and the Emerging Artist Prizes from the Ministry of Culture and Sports, and the Jack Nailor Award for Photography. His photographs are included in many collections, such as the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Haifa Museum of Art, Petach Tikva Museum of Art, Casa Morandi in Italy, the Knesset and private collections in Israel and abroad.
He lives in Jaffa and works in Jerusalem
I immigrated from South Africa with my husband in 1987. Our two children were born in Israel. I have been teaching English as a foreign language at the Hebrew University since 1991.
My first degree is in Psychology and History from UNISA (University of South Africa). I have a teaching Diploma and post-graduate degree in remedial Education from The University of the Witwatersrand (South Africa) and a master’s degree in English Literature from The Hebrew University.
In my years at the university I have taught English to students studying humanities, social sciences, sciences and nursing. I am looking forward to teaching new material to creative students and working with Joanna and the other members of English Unit.
I have always incorporated all four skills in teaching and I am happy that the MALAG has now made this approach official. I believe Bezalel students want to be part of the international academic community. Proficiency in English is essential to achieve this goal.
I will be teaching the basic level course. This course aims at building a solid foundation in English; preparing for the challenges of the higher levels and increasing confidence to use English both academically and for everyday usage.

Jan Tandrevold (born 1961, Norway) is a lecturer at the Architecture Department at Bezalel and a co-owner and practicing architect at Arctic Architects in Jerusalem. He studied architecture at the Oslo School of Architecture (Diploma Program), painting at the Academy of Art and Design (SHKS) in Oslo and at the Jerusalem Studio School (JSS), and urban studies at the International Laboratory of Architecture & Urban Design (ILAUD) in Siena, Italy and at the Rotenberg School of the Hebrew University, Jerusalem. In his teaching, his aims to provide an advanced understanding of modern architecture, starting by exploring how Palladio as an architect made the ancient modern. Critical observation of modern architecture is conducted in order to illustrate the continuation of architectural concepts from earlier Greek and Roman architecture, via Palladio, the Renaissance and the Baroque. Providing a link to contemporary architecture, he investigates the architecture of early modernist architects (especially Le Corbusier), and next generation Nordic architects including Sverre Fehn, his former professor from Oslo. As an extension of his course, he has also for many years been initiating and involved in bringing student from the Bezalel Architecture Department to various study tours in Italy and Greece.
