To mark the attacks of October 7th, Bezalel inaugurated a video installation calling for the return of the 239 hostages currently being held in Gaza.

The installation includes some 60 large-scale video screens placed along the glass walls of the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Campus, all of which face the central public city square just outside Bezalel’s main entrance. The installation screens the faces of the abducted hostages in a loop and is visible to anyone who approaches the square.

Throughout the month and beyond, additional contents and actions of the wider Bezalel community will be presented on Campus, as part of a visual and cognitive advocacy of the hostage crisis so as to ascertain it remains at the top of the Israeli and global agenda.

The installation is the initiative of Sharon Balaban, a video artist and lecturer at Bezalel’s Department of Screen-based Arts, in collaboration with a group of lecturers, students and administrative staff from several departments.
