The Israeli artist Guy Bar-Amotz (*1967) lives and works in London. He has exhibited at Tate Britain in London, Hertzliya Museum of Art in Hertzliya Israel, Centre d`Art Contemporain in Geneva and The Ikon Gallery in Birmingham.  In his upcoming exhibition at the Petra Rinck Galerie in Düsseldorf, he will show a complex installation of sculpture, sound, text and interactive elements.

The exhibition is built around a central figure: a robot called “Dream Speculator” who is acting as a psychoanalyst. His mission is to be a mediator between the artist and the outer world. The Robot can move his eyes, mouth and head and interacts with the environment through a video projection. The theoretical discourse is woven into an actual moving picture. The robot talkes about the gap between dream and reality, intuiton and logic, art and life.

Bar-Amotz's “Dream Speculator“ refers to a dream he had on 28th December 2008, the day after the Israeli bombardment of Gaza.  In his dream the artist speaks to his intellectual mentor Marcel Duchamp who he meets in the surrounding of a typical Californian suburb. Yearning and passion, frustration and fear come together in this meeting. Consciousness and subconsciousness, actual events such as the evening of the bombardement of Gaza, psychological and philosophical ideas melt together.

The conversation between Duchamp and Bar-Amotz is accompanied by music, rhythm and traditionel laments.

Suddenly the robot is caught by the word Gaza and this is where it has got stuck.

In this project Bar-Amotz has collaborated with software and computer engineer Piers O'Hanlon, and on Real Drill with typographer and designer Raanan Gabriel.
