History of Architecture A
This course will be dedicated to the study of Western architecture from the 5th century B.C. to the 14th century A.D. The discussion will be essentially chronological, and each of the chapters will be studied both with reference to the epoch's events, circumstances and Zeitgeist and to the architecture of the past. The architectural work will be analyzed using various points of view (physical, social, economic, scientific, technological, religious, cultural and artistic), as well as a ring in the chain of the history of architecture. Each of the chapters will conclude with a brief glance at modern, and even contemporary, works of architecture inspired by the chapter concluded. The aim of this move is to present the architectural act as influenced by the heritage of architecture and by the present discourse on the one hand, and as influencing architectural moves yet to come on the other hand.
