Discussions in the class will lead to better comprehending the move from analog photography to digital photography. Central questions are: what is photography? What is the dynamic that evolve in the viewing photograph(s)? How can we grasp photography as part the archive? What is the social and esthetic role of photography? What are the differences between documentary and staging/performance? What happened to the human vision with the ariel photography? What happened to photography in the virtual realm? Another aim of the proseminar is writing independent research. The proseminar’s students will learn reading skeels, analysis of academic texts, handling theoretical materials, and creating synthesis between different sources till they reach an academic research. The students will choose a topic for their research in the first semester. In the second semester they will develop the topic to a seminar.
