Future Realities II (The Spectrum)
The emergence of innovative "reality-changing" technologies that take us into other worlds, change the world around us, and allow us to simulate new and familiar realities, opens up unlimited possibilities of uses, applications, as well as questions about their impact on humanity and human perception. The course deals with these topics which are in the border between the fields of science and technology, and the fields of art and design. The course will be taught by Prof. Yair Bartal in collaboration with guest lecturers from academia and industry.
The main goal of the course is co-creation in a multidisciplinary group setting, with each student contributing from his area of ??expertise, and therefore the course does not require knowledge or technological abilities.
The bulk of the course will focus on understanding the innovative aspects of
XR (Extended Reality) technologies - Virtual, augmented and combined reality
VR / AR / MR (Virtual Reality / Augmented Reality / Mixed Reality),
where the main emphasis will be on the development of VR virtual reality projects on the Oculus Quest 2 platform.
The course is intended for students with a previous background in 3D design (or animation).
During the course, a Unity workshop focusing on VR will be delivered, as well as classes on other relevant topics such as combining characters and animation.
In addition, when necessary and depending on the nature of the projects, the course will expose students to complementary technologies that may enable creating an overall multi-sensory experience.
The final projects are planned to be displayed in an exhibition. Additionally, the best projects of the course will be given the opportunity to participate in prestigious conferences and exhibitions.
