Intro to Digital Culture: New Media, Digital Technologies and Platforms

The course centers on technological shifts and presents several dilemmas that have (and still) influenced us and the way we use the Internet. Throughout the course we will learn key terms that shaped the discourse about the Internet, we will discuss ideas and products of the thinkers and researchers who created these terms, and elaborate upon the tools (technologies and platforms) we often use. In addition, we shall delve into some of the questions and essential debates in the field. We will inquire about the ways that technology is enmeshed in the spaces around us and affects communication between humans and computers. Finally, if time permits, we will develop tactics to think and rethink about both present and future trends in digital culture.
