The course is designed for two types of students: exchange students who are looking for an introduction of the domestic scene and regular students who are interested in the international discourse of contemporary art in connection to the scene in Israel. The course is divided into three sections: the first one consists of three “study cases” – three exhibitions that re-contextualized canonic art movements such as Pop Art, Minimal Art and Land Art, giving a new perspective and a reading of art history that is not western-centric but rather global and included the work of Israeli artists such as Yoav Bar-El, Benni Efrat, Joshua Neustein, Micha Ullman and Yitzhak Danziger; the second one consists of in-person meetings with the works and the artists presented in the first section and possibly remote meetings with the curators of the “study cases” (the three exhibitions); the third one consists of a practical assignment in which each student is creating one work inspired by one of the artists or artworks discussed, met or encountered in the first and second sections; all assignments will be installed together in the form of an exhibition.
