Date:
10.1.24

The School of Architecture invites you to watch the film ‘Voices from El-Sayed’ as part of the פאוזה PAUSE پَاوْزا film screening series.

The film series is designed to make accessible the topics of space, restoration, repair, rebuilding, healing, and restoring trust through films. Each week, a film will be screened in a bifocal projection, and then there will be a conversation with a speaker relevant to the field.

‘Voices from El-Sayed’ is a film about the village of El-Sayed in the Negev where the world's largest deaf community lives. Deafness in the village is not considered a disability and the entire village community, hearing and deaf alike, speak the sign language unique to this community.

The film follows Muhammad El-Sayed and his struggle to become the first deaf person in the village who can hear through an innovative surgery - cochlear implant surgery.

After the film, there will be a short conversation about hope, care and mutual responsibility in the local area.
