Small space - XLObject

“Mold clay into a vessel;

It is the emptiness within

That creates the usefulness of the vessel.

Cut out doors and windows in a house;

it is the empty space inside

that creates the usefulness of the house.”

(The complete works of Lao Tzu: Tao Teh Ching)

The course will deal with the relationship between the individual and the space in which he resides. About how the different functions and architectural components define space. The way in which the materials, textures, colors, proportions as well as the objects used in it, light sources, passages and openings affect the experience of the person staying in it. The course consists of several short exercises which give an opportunity for a small-scale architectural thinking experience. At the end, we will develop and, define a need and formulate a space and a design concept "for the home" that will be expressed and illustrated using architectural tools – plan, view, cross-section, perspective, computerized model and physical model at scale and other means of design expression.
