Universal design - Insight

Don't you remember the Woodstock festival?

Tutors: Yedidia Blonder and Shanit Adam

The core concept of a universal design approach is to harness into the design process the complex and diverse characteristics and needs of minorities in populations and create a deep, layered and meaningful research process that expands and sharpens the ways of observing and the proposed design solutions.

The course is conducted in the format of research and development teams, consisting of students, staff members and residents of a nursing home / sheltered housing. The teams will work together and design aids and products designed to improve lifestyle in old age. As part of the universal design concept, the products will be intended for the population at large, with an emphasis on a wide range of uses and capabilities.

Students will receive lectures and information on the challenges facing the elderly from a variety of professional partners, will visit and meet with professionals at Yad Sara and a nursing home.
