Bauhaus and the White City are usually associated with Tel Aviv, but this international style of architecture was also common from the 1920s to the 1940s in Jerusalem, Haifa and the Kibbutz, and in each, developed with unique local characteristics.
Dr. Schüler will review the fascinating architectural phenomenon of modernism that developed during the British Mandate and present highlights of his research from his recent book "The Transfer of Modernity" (edited by Prof. Schüler and Prof. Jörg Stabenow) examining the propensity of this international style in Israel of the early 20th century, including the techniques, perceptions and principal figures that influenced it and were behind the development of such a unique phenomenon in the history of modern architecture.

The lecture will take place in cooperation with, and as part of, the Open House Jerusalem Festival.
