Knock on the Door

The Department of Screen Arts invites the general public to a screening and a special Memorial Day meeting with creator and department lecturer Ohad Milstein.

"In the dead of night, September 1997, a naval combat force marches into a deadly ambush in Lebanon. Eleven of the fighters were killed. The body of one of them was left behind - Itamar, my older brother. With the knock on the door to the house where I grew up, annual trips were replaced by state ceremonies, first kisses with sirens. Twenty five years later, I am knocking on the door of those who introduced me to bereavement: informants, the casualty officer, the bereaved father and mother who are my father and mother. It's a game of chairs, this time it's the bereaved sister who stands on the threshold, asking to enter.

"Knock on the Door" presents a portrait of mourning, an index of Israeli bereavement.”
Israel 2023 | 54 minutes

Directors: Ohad Milstein ('Summer Nights', 'Week 23') and Aya Elia

At the end of the screening there will be a conversation with the filmmaker Ohad Milstein.
