The Andy Prize 2.0 in memory of Andrea Morrison Bronfman is awarded to students of Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design Jerusalem who have excelled in craft-oriented disciplines which Andy loved so much, including glass, ceramics, jewelry, accessories and shoes.

Last year, the Cohen family generously decided to double the Andy 2.0 Prize to $10,000 for each of the 3 recipients, making it the largest as well as the most prestigious prize in its field.

The creator’s journey began from a deep need for survival, a search for a light not seen by the eye but felt by the heart. She found in ceramics an honest way to express complex emotions, drawing inspiration from rich Palestinian heritage symbols like the straw plate and traditional embroidery, for the stories and identity they carry. Developing a technique that blends clay with cardboard to simulate straw, she makes her works spaces of contemplation where craft intersects with dream, and heritage with self.

Outstanding Achievement in Glass Design

The meal is the most accurate metaphor for life in the shadow of death. In this project, Tal aims to place the viewer in a state of observation and self-reflection, to awaken awareness of the fragility of existence, and to remind them that everything comes to an end. Through the combination of the materiality of glass and the act of the meal, she explores how an ostensibly mundane moment such as eating carries within it an acknowledgment of death and disappearance. Carrying its presence, it becomes especially sharp at the moment of eating. The reality of death appears in every meal and imposes itself, but it is precisely in that where the proof of life lies.

The blessing over the wine, with the Kiddush cup, is an eternally personal moment. Yishai captivated by the purple darkness, encircled in silver. To gently hold the funnel and feel the abundance flowing from above to below. Take a deep breath – and sanctify life. The garments he creates are part of an ongoing, joyful process – a search for form and expression. Clothing born of the synagogue, from both the men's and women's sections. “I design for us, thanks to everyone that contributed to the fashion of humanity – and in honor of Jerusalem”.

The winning projects and many more innovative and creative works are available at Bezalel’s annual Graduate Exhibition which is now open to the public. Details in the link.
