A gala screening of the movie and a talk with the creator Smadar Zair

Israel 2020 | 60 Minutes

Women films make up about 10% of all films screened in cinemas around the world every year. What does it do to the Israeli cinema? Has it always been this way? Why do so few women make movies? And what happens when a woman sits in the director's chair.

Through the stories of 26 directors, "A woman is sitting in the Director's chair" offers a new look on Israeli Cinema. The woman places the creators' experiences in the centre serving conflicting narratives, little stories, bitter-sweet memories. This is a journey following the mothers of Israeli cinema, and it offers a new read. Instead of linear history, which is based on winnings and achievements, the movie presents the 'Herstory' which emerges from the portraits of the directors in a uniform close-up shot.

The film starring: Orna Ben Dor, Ayelet Menahemi, Efrat Corem, Esti Almo Wexler, Julie Shles, Dina Zvi-Riklis, Dana Goldberf, Hagar Ben Asher, Hanna Azoulay Hasfari, Tova Asher, Talya Lavie, Yaelle Kayam, Lee Gilat, Lena Chaplin, Maya Dreifuss, Maysaloun Hamoud, Michal Aviad, Michal Bat Adam, Michal Vinik, Tzipi Tropé, Keren Yedaya, Veronica (Ronnie) Kedar, Rama Burshtein, Shira Geffen.
