Critical Design

A critical design course introduces students to how design responds and acts on social-economic-political issues. We will see how visual and material language can raise issues for discussion, pose problems, and challenge accepted ways of thinking. We will explore contemporary movements in critical design, acquire tools for analyzing critical design, and discuss critical design as a tool for expressing meaning, critique, and social change. At the end of the course, the students will be asked to write a paper analyzing critical design.
