Introduction to Art History

This course offers an introductory survey of art history from prehistory through the seventeenth century. It examines how artistic objects, images, and monuments functioned within their social, political, and religious contexts, and how changing styles were experienced by different audiences. Students will gain a foundational understanding of key stylistic and historical developments across diverse periods, with particular attention to the roles of patronage, belief systems, and social structures in shaping artworks and their interpretation. The course will be taught in English.
