The Department of Photography invites to the 'NEKEV' exhibition.

Camera Obscura is an optical phenomenon known since the 5th century BCE that occurs when a three-dimensional scene is projected through a hole into a dark chamber and appears as a two-dimensional projected image.

In the 17th and 18th centuries, many artists used camera obscura for their works, but as far as is known, until the 19th century, they did not use existing knowledge of chemistry and optics principles to permanently fix the image revealed in the optical device and create the camera. The circumstances surrounding the invention of photography remain a mystery even today, and continue to evolve as research in the field deepens. The first-year students in the Photography Department at Bezalel, who are exhibiting in this exhibition, followed in the footsteps of the early photographers, built pinhole cameras, and experimented with photography using 19th-century techniques.
