Exhibition | Nelly Agassi - Material Fatigue
Bezalel Gallery of Contemporary Art is delighted to invite you to the opening of the exhibition "Material Fatigue" by artist Nelly Agassi.
Material Fatigue by Nelly Agassi takes the radical idea of free play as its point of departure, revisiting Niki de Saint Phalle's iconic Golem (Jerusalem, 1972) to ask what forms of freedom children are still permitted to experience. Through a newly commissioned body of work—including a monumental rope installation, a video work, and a necklace containing the artist's sons' milk teeth—Agassi asks who authorizes freedom, whose anxieties shape children's environments, and how the hidden dialectic between protection and autonomy continues to structure both play and society.
Set against the backdrop of a reality marked by militarization, surveillance, and the erosion of shared moral and social values, the exhibition reveals how systems of care gradually harden into systems of limitation. Rather than offering answers, Material Fatigue investigates whether free play can still open a temporary suspension of the social order - and whether, within that fragile space, alternative ways of future remain possible.
