The Department of Visual & Material Culture invites you to an Exhibition in honor of International Women’s Day: 'Absentee Presentee Code'.

Exhibiting: Sophie Abu Shakra, Said Abu Shakra, Farid Abu Shakra

This exhibition brings together three generations of one family: Sophie Abu Shakra, a young architect & designer & Technion graduate; Said Abu Shakra, artist, founder and director of the Umm el-Fahem Museum of Art, and Yakir Bezalel honoree for 2025; Farid Abu Shakra, artist and chief curator at the Umm el-Fahem Museum of Art; and Mariam Abu Shakra, the family matriarch, who passed away. Their voices are distinct, yet their rhythms are similar. They echo the recurring, constant patterns of an ancient women’s language.
