Bezalel Graduate Exhibition תערוכת בוגרי.ות בצלאל معرض خريجات وخريجي بتسلئيل
On Thursday, August 3, 2023 and on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, Bezalel will open its doors to the general public at the School of Architecture for the annual alumni exhibition, which will present the works of graduates from all of the academy's departments.
This year, for the first time, the graduate exhibition will be held at the academy’s new home at the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel campus, in the heart of Jerusalem. As part of the exhibition, over 400 graduates will present their work in spaces that will be transformed, for a period of two weeks, from classrooms and study spaces into a huge museum.
This is a unique opportunity to get to know and be exposed to the talents cultivated by the academy, just before they become those who will lead in the fields of art, design and architecture in Israel and around the world in the coming decades.
The move to the new campus marks the historic return of Bezalel to the city center and the creation of a bustling urban campus, including the historic Bezalel building, which houses the school of architecture, the new campus and the Bezalel dormitory, all within a short walking distance of each other. This year, for the first time, visitors to the exhibition will be able to tour the graduate exhibition at the new campus and then continue to the exhibition at the School of Architecture, and vice versa.
The building, which covers 42,000 square meters, was designed by the Japanese architecture firm SANAA, one of the leading architectural firms in the world, and winner of the Pritzker Prize, in collaboration with the Israeli HQ office. Visitors to the exhibition will be able to pass between the different departments and wander the corridors of the academy while being impressed by the pulsating architecture of the campus, the huge transparent workshops, and the impressive galleries. They will also be able to experience the transparency of the campus, which reveals what is happening in the academy to the community while allowing those within a view outward.
As part of the visit to the exhibition, it will also be possible to delve into projects that deal with cross-departmental issues, among them sustainability - works bearing the "Bezalel in the Environment" tag and dealing with the environment; design and technology - works dealing with virtual reality, smart materials, robotics, gaming, bio design, and innovation; and gender - works dealing with fairness and gender equality, and more.
Bezalel aims to train creators who strive for excellence, understand the environment in which they operate, and recognize the power in their hands and the responsibility placed on their shoulders; critical and active citizens who want to and can lead and influence the culture, society and economy in Israel and the world. This alumni exhibition is their first step on this journey.
